The book is about a girl named Gwen, who has always been good at all of her classes and had good grades, but she still found herself struggling to graduate with the rest of her classmates. With no other options, Gwen gets herself into a deep cycle of debt in order to pay for college.

Indebted is a contemporary YA novel about a young woman who's just been kicked out of her house for trying to find the money she needs to pay off her debt. The protagonist, Sophie, is then forced to live with a roommate, find work and figure out how to get on her feet as she's also taking care of her sick mother.

She meets a man through an online dating site and they hit it off, but he's married and has two kids. Now Emily lives in his house with his family and she is struggling not only to pay back the debt but also to keep up hope that things will change for the better soon.
