Highland Warrior: A Novel Free Audiobook Download by Monica McCarty
The Highland Warrior is a novel that deals with the lives of two clans in Scotland who battle for control over the Highlands. The story is told from the perspective of Margaret, who is taken as a hostage and raised by one clan after her parents are killed during a raid. Margaret's past comes back to haunt her when she falls in love with a man who has lived his whole life in enemy territory.
Highland Warrior is a beautifully written book with a captivating story. It tells the tale of a woman who has to fight for survival and true love in the wilds of New York. The author's descriptions of the landscapes are vivid and original, making this a book that is both easy to read and hard to put down.
The protagonist, Mattie, is a young woman who has grown up on the back of her father's Highland Warrior horse farm. She learns to ride in a work-trade with a neighboring farmer on horseback but as she grows up, she becomes more and more aware of how far off the ground she stands from her friends and neighbors.
'Roger Hampton' narrates the story of Chris Ryan, a lonely man living in rural Maine. Chris is struggling with his own inner demons while also trying to keep his son, Tyler, from going down a similar path. In order to save Tyler from himself, he must go on a journey that forces him to face his darkest fears and learn how to live again.
In the sequel to Highland Warrior, McCarty's protagonist and best friend, Ryker MacKenzie, gets into all kinds of trouble. The story starts off where Ryker is a police officer but then becomes a merchant sailor. He relishes in the adventure, until he is captured by slavers who put him into slavery. He eventually escapes and returns to his home on an island in Scotland. The story goes back and forth between both time periods, as well as focusing on different characters in the novel, who not only see their world changing but also themselves changing as they pass through their own lives.
There are a lot of books narrated by Roger Hampton on Audible but there is always something new to learn when listening to his narration. This book was so informative and entertaining. I enjoyed hearing about different cultures, the ocean and all the things that make up our world in such a fascinating way.
