This book is a memoir and the author's personal experience of selling her daughter to her first and only customer. In the process, she discovered that someone in her community was abusing children in the same way she had been abused as a young girl.

Lisa Wysocky Shyima Hall was only 10 years old when she was lured by a woman to live in her home and care for her children. Lisa quickly learned that the woman was not an ordinary mom but rather an international human trafficking boss who would force Lisa to work up to 12 hours a day while she raised her own family. She escaped and bravely went to the police, but soon found out that it was impossible for them to do anything. Often times they would just tell her they are sorry and return her to the traffickers. When she found a new way out, she began working as an undercover investigator in order to help rescue other girls like herself.

In the early 2000s, a little girl was sold by her parents and forced to work full-time as a domestic servant in Kuwait. When she escapes and returns to her family in Texas, she is shocked at her new reality of living without freedom or money. The girl's story is one of many stories of "hidden girls" that has taken place in Kuwait and many other countries across the world over the past few decades.

Hidden Girl is told from the perspective of Lisa, a 12-year-old girl who has been abducted and placed into servitude for most of her life. This book is about how she escaped to freedom. Throughout this novel, Lisa does not tell us of her traumatic experiences in detail. Instead, the reader learns more about her through the people around her and their perspectives on what's happening.
