It is easy to imagine being in the child's shoes as he learns his culture, his language and more importantly how to survive in the difficult landscape of reservation life.

A young boy named Crow has two different fathers that he lives with. When they return from the market, they find their home completely ransacked. The people in search of them steal not just their supplies, but also their horses, dogs, mule deer meat and even the hide off one of their buffalo.
