Fireflies in December Free Audiobook Download by Jennifer Erin Valent
Fireflies in December was a beautifully written story. The audiobook version is currently free on Audible, so it could be an excellent choice for listeners who are looking for something different to listen to.
Firefly's author, Jennifer Erin Valent, is an avid reader and has been since she was a little girl. "November is my favorite month," says the author. "There are so many things that happen in November: it's the last month of school, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas." When asked what her favorite book of all time was and why, she said: "I don't actually know a favorite book but I love reading books that dwell on family struggles.... I want to write stories with strong female protagonists who struggle to find themselves."
"Fireflies in December" is a beautiful story about love and family. Kate Forbes, a middle school teacher with a knack for telling stories, brings this story alive with her authentic voice. This book showcases the best of what Christmas has to offer and I found myself reading it slower and savoring every word.
It's 1958 in rural Louisiana and a young woman, nicknamed "Mama," has just given birth to her first child. The community is rare in having no electricity and only one phone line, so nothing ever happens during the night. When Mama's new son starts acting out at bedtime, Mama finally takes the advice of an older woman who tells her the story of the firefly that lights up the darkness. Suddenly, Mama's baby starts acting normal again, but then Mama wakes up to see thousands of fireflies above their house.
