In the audiobook, we meet Joe Kavanagh, a middle-aged American professor of English literature who has been living in Prague teaching at a university. He spends one day with his wife, Sarah, who has agreed to visit her father for a few weeks before she leaves again for America. The two visit Prague's Jewish district, where they notice strange graffiti scrawled on house walls outside of which children are playing. They soon realize that these children are being raised by the Nazis for their next genocidal assault on Jews. The novel follows Kavanagh as he starts to investigate what happened during the war and how it all connects to his family's past in Ireland.

Fatherland is a thriller novel by Robert Harris. It's about an American diplomat in Britain who tries to protect his family from a terrorist attack planned for the upcoming G20 Summit. The protagonist, Tom Quinn, discovers the mastermind and turns him into the FBI. When he does so, the FBI decides that they must kill him to keep him from talking or else there will be more deaths.
