Everything We Didn't Say: A Novel Free Audiobook Download by Nicole Baart
The audiobook is written in first person and follows the character of Nicole as she navigates her life. The story starts with Nicole's involvement with a small personal tragedy that is quickly followed by a small step in her career, which leads to larger responsibilities. Nicole's most important relationships are with her family, which provides the emotional support she needs to lean on. Throughout the novel, we see how Nicole's life changes as she struggles to balance her professional responsibilities while also trying to keep things together in her personal life.
The novel follows the story of Tessa as she struggles to answer questions about the death of her father, who she has never met. Tessa's mother tells her that her father died when she was very young and doesn't want to talk about him.
Everything We Didn't Say is a novel about a woman's journey to find herself, but it is also about the journey of a nation. Every person and every country has good things that they would rather not talk about and bad things that they don't want to talk about, but all too often we carry around the things we don't say with us every day. This novel is a perfect example of how important it is to have conversations and allow people to share theirs in order to learn together. The novel starts by giving the reader a list of things that the narrator did not say for fear of being judged or ridiculed or misunderstood, but through those experiences she learns what she believes and realizes her true self.
With the help of her friend, Dr. Gregory Keaton, Lucie Miller starts at a new school to begin life anew after narrowly escaping death and severe injury in a car accident. The novel follows Lucie through the highs and lows of being back on the academic stage with all its twists and turns. She struggles with her mental health issues and with what seems to be an endless list of other challenges.
Though the audiobook is just over 10 hours long, it's a quick and easy listen. It's also quite bittersweet. There are many points where I felt like crying as my heart broke for the protagonist, someone very close to me who is struggling immensely with their addiction. I really appreciate that this book doesn't sugarcoat anything and doesn't try to make excuses for bad decisions made by the characters.
