The robbers come after the car dealership where Nick works and he decides to make a run for it with Pete in tow. When they are confronted by a policeman, Nick makes a quick decision to lie instead of tell the truth and leave Pete to answer for any crimes that may have been committed during their getaway plan. Eventually, they find themselves in hiding with no way out but to return home to their families...or get caught.

Richard Russo's debut novel, "Everybody's Fool," follows the life of Monte Lipman, a Hoosier native who was born into wealth but turned out to be an inept businessman. The story is told from Monte's perspective, as well as that of his wife and two sons. Russo does a good job of portraying the struggles in the lives of these characters, and setting the scene for a riveting story about love, greed, and how people get lost in its midst.
