The plot shifts back and forth from past to present, gradually revealing the story of what happened and how it led to the events of the present. In addition to being a good mystery, Devil in Disguise has some really great characters that I think readers will love.

After her husband leaves her for another woman, she falls into depression and weighs herself down with guilt. But when she meets the man of her dreams, everything changes. He only wants to be friends at first, but then he starts to change her life - and she realizes that this town could have a dark side if they aren't careful.

Devil in Disguise is a story about two people with dark pasts who find each other and fall deeply in love. The story starts off with Lord Robert Carlisle, the Earl of St. Ives and his best friend, Jack Roslin, being sent to London to find a woman who can marry Sam Carstairs, a man whom has just inherited one hundred thousand pounds but has no idea how to spend it or manage it. While they are searching for their woman from hell, they find the love of both of their lives.

The protagonist, Eloisa Carlyon, is a young woman from a wealthy family in 1812. At the age of twenty-five, she has found herself without a suitable marriage prospect. Out of desperation, she mistakenly attends a masquerade ball and finds herself in the arms of a masked man who whisks her away to his country estate. His name is Andre Devereaux, the son of one of England's most powerful aristocrats and he has made it his mission to destroy Eloisa's heart by leading her on before leaving her broken and humiliated at the end.
