Descent is a young adult science fiction novel with many twists and turns. It follows the journey of sixteen-year-old Rik, who's just been accepted into the world's most prestigious academy for computer programming. However, when he starts to have dreams about a run-down hospital and an abandoned military base which he can't remember visiting, things start to get really confusing. It soon becomes clear that there was something wrong with his application and people are out to take over the world or destroy it entirely so they won't be seen as failures.

In Descent, Tim Johnston speaks of hellish nightmares and deadly decisions made in a world where reality is constantly shifting and the line between good and evil is never clear.

This is a story about four friends who are on a mountain retreat. One of their friends, Michele, goes missing after an avalanche and the other three go on to find her. Struggling with the trauma, they realize that they will never be the same again.

The narrator, Xe Sands, does a wonderful job of delivering the story in such a fashion that it is easy to follow. The plot is intriguing, and the characters are engrossing. I enjoyed this book immensely and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys science fiction or fantasy books.
