The family becomes close and loving through the struggles they face together.

Mrs Bird has two daughters, Flora and Clara. Flora loves to stay outside all day, playing hide and seek, or running through the woods. Clara likes to watch Mary Popplewell's dream ballet and play with her dolls. The story is about Mrs. Bird encouraging her daughters to be brave and show their emotions.

Dear Mrs. Bird is a beautifully written novel about the pressures of school and family life, told from the perspective of a young girl who escapes to her imagination - her alter ego, Mrs. Bird.

The Setting In London in the mid-1800s and just as Jack, a young boy with an unruly streak, is about to be put in jail for stealing, his mother's friend Mrs. Bird comes to visit them.

Mrs. Bird is a lonely old lady who has a secret: she likes to watch birds from her feeder. When she discovers that a pair of sparrows have come to visit her, she becomes entranced by their antics and eventually falls in love with them.
