Dear Edward is a novel about the life of a woman and her struggles with addiction, love, and family. The story begins with a letter from Edwina to Edward written when she was 18. A year later, Edward receives the letter and decides to follow in his parents footsteps by going to Ohio for the weekend. He is greeted by Edwina's mother who informs him that Edwina has died of an overdose just days after mailing the letter.

"Dear Edward: A Novel" is a sweet young adult novel about a girl's struggle to fight against the secrets that she has been told all her life. The story starts off with Elizabeth, the protagonist, finding out that her beloved grandfather has passed away and left an old letter for her as he planned on committing suicide before he could tell someone his secret. He tells his granddaughter that she must write back to him in order to solve his mystery.
