Cop Town: A Novel Free Audiobook Download by Karin Slaughter

Cop Town: A Novel by Karin Slaughter is an audiobook that tells the story of a police officer, Andrea Sheppard. The story starts when she is investigating a crime scene and ends up experiencing traumatic flashbacks. These flashbacks are in relation to the night her older sister was killed back in high school. Andrea's work is affected and she decides to go on medical leave. Through therapy sessions with her therapist, Dr. Anne Shirley, she begins to confront her grief head-on and work through the trauma of losing her sister.

Cop Town is told from a female perspective and follows the story of two sisters in 1970s Birmingham, Alabama, loosely based on the relationship between author Karin Slaughter’s mother and her sister. The sisters are smart, beautiful, and popular girls who live in a mostly all-white neighborhood but attend an inner city school where they befriend the children of their father’s police force. When their father becomes involved in a racially motivated murder cover-up, he arranges for them to be sent away to boarding school.

In Cop Town, the latest novel by Karin Slaughter, a small-town murder leads to a much bigger crime. In Georgia's fictional Copeland, Mayor Jimmy Price has decided to build a new water treatment plant and pumphouse in order to accommodate the town's growing population. But when a prominent engineer is found dead on the construction site and his blueprints stolen, two detectives from Atlanta are dispatched to figure out what happened. The one thing they know for sure: someone wants those plans, and badly enough to kill for them.

In this exciting crime novel, a cold case is reopened when the remains of a college girl are found in the lake near her family's cabin. The new evidence leads to an unlikely suspect and it's up to two retired detectives to find the truth. This thrilling mystery will keep you listening until the final clue is revealed.

Author Karin Slaughter takes listeners on a rough ride through the gritty world of law enforcement. Her protagonist, Detective Karin "Harry" Hathaway, has to balance family life with her tough job. The author does a good job of building suspense as Harry's detective skills are put to the test. Kathleen Early's performance is amazing. She does an outstanding job with all the different voices and accents in this story.
