The novel is about a Japanese woman, Nana, who, in her late 20s, falls in love with the convenience store she works at and then learns through observation that she has an unhealthy relationship with food. This novel is told in first person so it gives readers a personal perspective of Nana's progress and struggles.
Sayaka Murata's new book, Convenience Store Woman, is a Japanese author who moved across the globe to America in her twenties. It's about the experiences of Sayaka as she navigates through new cultures and social norms that she was not used to. However, what sets this series apart from other memoirs is its focus on food, specifically between cultures and how you can be a part of society while still being yourself.
This book is a Japanese story and the name of the main character is Sayaka Murata. She's a young convenience store clerk who lives with her mom and brother in an apartment that they rent. Sayaka aspires to become a kindergarten teacher but is struggling to make ends meet. Her life changes when she meets a single father and his son, who are also convenience store clerks.
The novel is about a young woman who has a series of bad relationships whilst working in convenience stores, and the title of the book is taken from her favorite phrase, "I am Kyoto," which she says when she's trying to put her troubles behind her. The novel speaks about Japanese society, as well as the difficulties of life for women in Japan.
I love this book so much. The story is about a convenience store woman by the name of Mitsuko who never had a chance to get to know somebody. One day she meets someone who changes her life and she starts to get closer and closer to him. The text is really easy to read and it's so smooth. I would recommend this book because it's just a really good novel with a good story that will give you many emotions.
