Caravans: A Novel of Afghanistan Free Audiobook Download by James A. Michener

This is not a travel memoir. It's a novel of Afghanistan, set in the 1400s. The author doesn't get in and out of Kabul every other day for cover stories as he does with his novels about Hawaii, El Salvador, or France. Michener knows the importance of historical accuracy for this novel.

Caravans: A Novel of Afghanistan is the first of three books about American adventurer Lewis Pugh. The book tells the story of the Russian’s invasion into Afghanistan in the early 1800s and how their ruthless conquest affects the lives and fortunes of two families living in Kandahar. By day, these characters are merchants, peasants, nomads; by night they are thieves and brigands, kindred spirits with one another in a world where they must live by a new code that waits to be discovered rather than one they create themselves.

Caravans is James Michener's debut novel, released in 1956. For the most part, it covers the journey of a group of Americans from New York to Kabul, and their subsequent return from Afghanistan in 1936. Sadly, at the time of release Michener was a little known writer in America. Caravans sold poorly and received little critical attention. By 1977 when Caravans won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction, Michener had emerged as one of America's best-known writers.

Caravans is a novel by James A. Michener written in 1954 that focuses on the history of travel and trade between Europe and the Middle East in the mid-nineteenth century. The story revolves around an American named Michael, who comes to Afghanistan with a caravan of traders in search of fabled treasures.

The story is about an American journalist's experiences during the war against Pakistan, a conflict that brought America closer to involvement in Afghanistan. From the prologue, we are introduced to the hidden and complex world of Afghanistan and its people, who seem proud and contented despite a troubled history. The narrator travels through many parts of the country in search of his old friend, Rashid Zarif Khan-Mamush, who has been missing for over two weeks.
