"Callander Square" by Anne Perry is a classic gothic novel that has everything a reader could want and more. The story begins with a man getting out of bed and stumbling into the middle of a crime scene. He sees a dead woman covered in blood, which sets off memories from his childhood when he witnessed his father's death.

This is the first James Corden audiobook and he does a good job. I like that he reads the book effortlessly and has a great voice for the character of Callander Square. He does make some pronunciation errors but generally does well. Some parts made me laugh, especially when he talks about his 'shirt-front'. The story is about a detective who meets an old friend from the war in a public square. It's her birthday and she is reminiscing about their time together during World War II while they are being watched by ghosts.

Davina Porter is an author, actress, and stand-up comedian who is known for her hit podcast Davina Mornings. Callander Square is a historical mystery novel by Anne Perry that follows the events of one day in London in 1878. The narrator, Davina Porter, is a journalist who has been assigned to write an article about the murder of a young woman. At first glance, there appears to be no connection between the murder and the surrounding area--a familiar city square where she works but also a faceless, unassuming place. What makes Callander Square so special? The answer lies in the people who live there: those with nothing and those with so much they can't hide it from each other.
