"It can be difficult to write well about war. A soldier's lot is harsh and brutal, often devoid of sentiment or romance. But because I know that warriors exist who long for such a story to be told, I have striven over the years to make them real to me."

The Call to Arms audio book is an interesting story about a pre-WWI America in which a Christian crusade leads to a military coup and the assassination of the President. The story follows one officer through his adventure from the army's training camp to becoming an advisor to the president, experiencing death but never giving up on his purpose.

When World War II started, Colonel Robert E. Lee Prewitt was an add-on to a battle-weary regiment in the Army Air Corps. The year is 1942 and he's been in the service for six months when he is transferred to the Army Infantry and given command of a company. Prewitt takes his men into combat where they discover that being in combat means being treated as less than human. It's a new kind of war, and they are fighting with everything they have but it still won't be enough to win the war.

This audiobook takes place during the Civil War and follows the story of two brothers, one a gung-ho Union soldier, the other a Southern sympathizer. The two learn they are actually father and son. The story is set against the backdrop of the Battle of Gettysburg.
