This novel is about the life of a Japanese man and his experiences in a small Japanese town. He has to move away from the town in hopes of finding a better life for him and his family, but he finds that there are some people that can never escape from what they have always known. They were born into certain situations and will die just as planned. One day, he learns of an old train that had been buried beneath the town's landfill. The old train is run by clockwork, so it has not been switched off since it was placed there decades ago. The novel is about our main character's experience with this hidden treasure after he decides to set it up again.

The narrator of the audiobook, 'Pun Bandhu', has a distinctive voice. His voice is deep and gravelly with a tendency to be hoarse at the end of a sentence or word. His reading is slow, with pauses between words, making it easy to follow along even when there are long periods of dialogue.
