Bloody Sunday: A Thriller Free Audiobook Download by Ben Coes
Bloody Sunday, the 5th book in the series begins with a chilling and suspenseful prologue. Hollywood producer Harry Dayton is about to meet his wife for their anniversary when he receives an urgent message from his former best friend, his childhood mentor, who served as a soldier during the Vietnam War. Now fighting for his life in a phantasmagoric nightmare, Harry's old mentor says that Harry should hurry back to him because he has something that will get them both out of this mess. With nothing else on his calendar and feeling guilty about what happened to his mentor, who is still fighting for his life, Harry jumps into a plane heading out of LAX airport with no idea what awaits him upon landing.
Those who have read Tracy Kidder's book 'The Soul of a New Machine' know that the author often goes into detail about why a product or process was chosen and what is different between it and its predecessor. This is not an audiobook review, so I will not go into detail about the story or the audiobook narration.
Bloody Sunday is an audiobook about a hostage crisis in which the protagonist, Althea, must stay alive. She does this by trying to fill in gaps of information and escape. Despite being a thriller, the thriller elements are not very engaging.
Bloody Sunday by Ben Coes is a thriller that follows the story of an old friend of [Ben Coes] and his current best friend the writer [Josh Neufeld]. It starts with an email from Josh to Ben about his new book, which has gotten some positive feedback. When Ben finally reads it at the airport he realizes it's about him. Josh has been trying to reach Ben for months now but he left a few weeks before Christmas without telling anyone where he was going. As events unfold and people start dying, Ben begins to wonder what really happened on Bloody Sunday and if there is any truth to what Josh wrote in his book.
In the summer of 1972, as the world watched a divided America, an unlikely hero stepped up to confront an evil that threatened to destroy the nation. That hero was Joseph O'Connell, an Irish Catholic cop from New York's Lower East Side and a former Marine Corps officer. His mission: to stop the bomb from going off on Bloody Sunday--and he did it almost single-handedly.
"I am Manny." It starts with that simple sentence. What follows is a story of revenge, justice, and intrigue ripped straight out of the headlines. 'Bloody Sunday' combines all the elements of a good thriller: a charismatic protagonist, a beautifully crafted setting, and an author who knows how to draw his readers in.
