This book, in the form of a novel, is about a group of friends who are kidnapped. Their captors are the IRA and their goal is for them to be released before the British authorities arrive. They are held hostage for 2 years and during that time they have to cooperate with each other and find ways of getting along. This is a very interesting story and I enjoyed listening to it as much as I enjoyed reading it.

When he and his father are captured by a group of terrorists one day before the school year begins, it is up to Sean to save not only himself, but his teacher and many others. The story takes place in 1887 during the Fenian rising. The protagonist is Emmet Brennan, a young Irish American who was kidnapped and taken to Ireland by Michael Collins and his Irish Brigade in retaliation for the death of the English General Sir Harry Smith at the hands of an Irishman.
