A Rare Interest in Corpses Free Audiobook Download by Ann Granger
This is a collection of interconnected short stories, each with a different protagonist, who are involved in various ways with the dead. Many of these characters are dealing with their own mortality, and many of them are learning how to deal with the dead. Some want to know more about the deceased; others simply want to live without them. This audiobook has an anthology feel because it switches between narrators for each story.
A Rare Interest in Corpses is a very interesting and unusual story to read. It's written by Ann Granger, who has lived her entire life on her family's farm where she spends her childhood putting together collections of deceased animals left behind like a true naturalist. One day, she notices the dead body of a human just outside of the barn and goes on to learn more about the corpse. From there, she builds relationships with the locals and begins to document this unusual interest in local people who die brutally.
In the summer of 1874, a drifter came to a small town in Indiana and found work as a "truck farmer" or cemetery gardener. Over the next few months, he worked at three different cemeteries. One morning in November, while working alone in Covington Cemetery, he discovered something he had never seen before. As the narrator climbs into the grave to investigate, we find that his eyes aren't just focused on what lies below the earth; instead, his vision is locked on some distant point in time―to a time before there were roads and fences around these final resting places of forgotten men and women. I really loved this audiobook because it was so different from other books I've read. The narrator
