A Mercy River: A Van Shaw Novel Free Audiobook Download by Glen Erik Hamilton
The Van Shaw novels are set in the post-apocalyptic world of Ashwood. The protagonist, Van Shaw, will do anything to survive and help his family live a better life. These books are action packed with lots of emotional moments that keep the reader on their toes.
A Mercy River: A Van Shaw Novel is narrated by [R.C. Bray], who has a deep and rich voice that fits the listener to a T. With each chapter, I felt I was being pulled into the story and that I couldn't stop listening to learn more about the plot towards its conclusion.
Corporal Owen Van Shaw is sent to a remote area in Afghanistan where he struggles with his PTSD and the conflict that erupts after an American service member is responsible for the death of an Afghan child.
The first book in the series starts off with the main character, Van Shaw, being killed by a guy who is on a killing spree. We are then taken back to his life and what led him to be killed.
To me, Glen Erik Hamilton's A Mercy River: A Van Shaw Novel is a book that feels like home. It starts off with a bang with Van Shaw just returning from the war in Afghanistan and needing to start over as a new person. The struggle of trying to regain one's sanity while trying to recover from the traumas they experienced on the battlefield is raw and emotional. But then he meets a beautiful woman named Meadow who instantly changes his perspective on life. The story really takes off when Van and Meadow decide to focus on restoring the historic Hanging Rock mansion--and all that goes wrong between them--and ends up nearly destroying it before they finally find some resolution. It was refreshing to see Van through the journey of getting back
Van Shaw, an earnest and determined young woman, is desperate to find her father. Van's family have been chasing the elusive patriarch for over fifteen years in hope of finding him, but every lead has turned out to be a dead end. One day as she sits by the Mercy River reflecting on all that has happened, she sees a man jump into the river. Not thinking much about it at first, Van goes into the water and sees that their visitor is not just any man—it's her father!
