A Good Marriage is a novel by Kimberly Mccreight that tells the story of how a marriage slowly goes bad. After their wedding, 'Cindy' and 'Fitz' start to argue over everyday things. They argue about who should do the chores, who will take on which job, and what they should eat for dinner that night. Eventually, both of them break down into tears. It is not until much later in the story when they are able to work together to fix their marriage and grow closer again.
Kimberly Mccreight is a recently married woman that has just discovered she's pregnant with her husband's baby. She doesn't know how to tell him, and he gets mad at her when she tries to find out. He leaves the house in anger against his wife's wishes. Kimberly starts reading about the stages of marriage, which includes "the honeymoon phase." She realizes if their marriage stays on this level of happiness it will last forever.
Kimberly Mccreight's novels are entertaining and will lead to an enjoyable read. This is a clear example of that. One of the most important things in life is to find your soul mate, and for this novel, the protagonist does just that. The way the author presents this story through a series of letters from the protagonists past and present is unique. However, if you are not convinced by what the last letter says, there is also a note at the back explaining it all.
Sarah Zimmerman reads a passage from the novel. "I think I'm gonna come back from this," she told me when she left for work the next morning, and she didn't. She was gone in a flash, leaving behind nothing but a slip of paper with her address scribbled on it that I knew wasn't enough to lead them to me."
