Waste of Space Free Audiobook Download by Stuart Gibbs
"Waste of Space" is a short story written by Stuart Gibbs which was published in the Spring 2016 issue of "The New Yorker."
Gibson Frazier narrates this audiobook about a fictional company's plans for the future. The company is planning to send people to Mars. This book discusses how humans will grow into space and expand their influence beyond our home planet. They want to leave Earth, but they aren't sure how or if we should go back anytime soon. People in this book are struggling to understand what it means to be human in space while simultaneously trying to understand the effects of climate change on Earth.
A way to measure how much waste a country produces is by looking at their landfills. The United States is the second-largest producer of trash in the world, with a landfill rate per capita that is double the World Bank's average, according to Waste Dive. But what does this mean for Americans living in this country?
The story is about a man named Tony who is seriously broke and has to move back in with his parents. He's trying to get by and find some way to make money until he comes across an old space suit in the woods one day. After asking around, Tony learns of a nearby town where scrap metal is sold for a high price so he starts selling his recyclables. One day at a market, he discovers that the man who runs the stall has a really cool alien artifact that can blow up on command. The new plan is to sell them all at once but during the sale, they are interrupted by that same mysterious space creature from before. It takes off with their goods and leaves Tony in trouble which causes him much more grief than it would if he hadn't found that suit in the woods.
Stuart Gibbs is a genius. He has planned out an elaborate escape from his office in order to prove the point that a company can have too much space and still be successful. His clever plan fails unfortunately as he is caught, but it also proves that not even genius can make up for too much space.
In this audiobook, Stuart Gibbs chronicles his life as he begins to realize that his job at a finance firm is not what he is meant for. He quits his job and starts to work on his own project which will allow him to make and sell handmade bicycles.
