Unzipped is a story about love, sex, family, and self-confidence. The narrator Gaelforce is a woman who likes to be called "Gael." She's always been insecure and hides beneath her eye makeup. In the story, Gael finds out that she has a son when she is 27 years old. With this newfound revelation, she struggles with her identity and wants to know everything about her son: his birth date, what his name was at birth, what he looks like now. In order to find the answers to these questions for herself and for her child, Gael begins opening up her life by doing things she didn't think were possible before.

When she first saw the man walk into her office, she thought he was a customer. The handsome stranger had a disarming smile and friendly eyes. As they talked, she noticed that his hand kept brushing against her arm and he never took his eyes off of her. He was so charming that when he left to go to the washroom after their meeting, she didn't follow him like she should have. Gaelforce is a preteen girl who goes on adventures with the help of her imaginary friends. A big part of these adventures includes Gaelforce going to various places and doing various things, like riding bikes and playing in the park. Unzipped is about a summer when Gaelforce cannot find any friends to play with and it becomes difficult for her to enjoy herself. All of a sudden, this changes when she finds an old pound dog that randomly shows up at her house out in the country.
