The Discovery is the 20th book in the biblical Animorphs series. The main characters, Jake, Marco and Ax grow up to be warriors that fight against the Yeerks, who are an alien race intent on enslaving Earth's population by turning them into Andalites. The Yeerks have relocated humans onto a planet called Visser One and are taking over their bodies as hosts. The Animorphs must infiltrate Visser One and destroy the Hork-Bajir living there.

The main character, Tobias, is a teenage boy who has just found out that he and his friends have the power to morph into any animal they touch. The book follows them as they struggle to come to terms with what this means for their lives and the consequences it brings with it.

The year is 2024. Quinn's body aches with a jittery anticipation, like it did the first time her father told her she had to let go of her brother. She's been living on Earth this whole time, and now they're back, so she can let go of them again. There will be no more worrying about Jake being in danger, because he's not. Together, they'll remember what happened that night before Quinn was taken to the future and make sure no one gets hurt.

In this book, the Animorphs are trying to figure out why so many people have been disappearing and a mysterious creature has been attacking them. Jake is captured and taken before an old lady who wants him to reveal the Animorphs' secrets. Jake tries to explain that there is only one secret, but the old woman doesn't want to listen and he starts writing on the wall with his own blood. The kids are able to rescue him and set him free as they plan their next move.

As Jake, Cassie, and Marco make their way through the forest, they see a strange glow coming from the sky. They soon realize that it's coming from a rock and as they move closer, they find out it has a face carved into it. The face is that of an alien who looks exactly like Marco. As they wonder what to do with this, they notice that one of the aliens gets shot down by Earth Defense Commanders in fighter jets. Suddenly dozens of other aliens shoot down out of the sky. When Jake and Cassie tell Marco about this discovery he doesn't believe them which makes them wonder if he is in league with the aliens or if he's been brainwashed by Azmuth
