The Crippled God is a fantasy novel written by Steven Erikson and is the first book in his ten-book series titled The Malazan Book of the Fallen. It was published on October 26, 1999 by Bantam Books.
The Crippled God is a dark fantasy novel which takes place in an incredibly bleak world. The narrative of this book is told by the city, and it tells the story of a war that has ravaged the land, destroying all hope and life. As an audiobook, The Crippled God was read with a grittiness that caught my attention from the very beginning.
This is, by far, the best audiobook I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. The narration is a very soft, subtle and minimalist approach that, paired with the text rendering of this audiobook makes for a truly captivating listen. This is not one of those audiobooks where you're just waiting for the climax of the story so that you can jump in and start listening again. This is one where it's difficult to put down while listening to because every time you do, you have to wait for long periods of time before continuing.
The Crippled God by Steven Erikson is a brutal, emotional, and visceral tale of revenge and survival. In the tradition of Stephen King and George R. R. Martin, The Crippled God features dark themes of violence, graphic language, gruesome disasters, a savage world where death often comes quickly and in many ghastly forms.
Steven Erikson is back with his new thriller, The Crippled God. As always, the author delivers a captivating story that will keep the reader on the edge of their seat.
