It is said that Congressman Walter Fauntroy was the first to speak out after his introduction by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., saying "I am not at all sure but what this will be one of the most important meetings we ever have." Dr. King's speech for that evening became known as Stride Toward Freedom and he urged blacks to "never stop moving."
