Spirit Animals #7: The Evertree Free Audiobook Download by Marie Lu

In the latest installment of The Spirit Animals series, we finally get to meet the Evertree. This tree has been sending out homing signals in hopes someone will find it and help save its life from a deadly disease ravaging the forest. But when our protagonist, Skye, discovers that this tree is in trouble, she finds herself stuck in a race against time to figure out which of her friends is infected.

"The Feral" is the seventh book in Marie Lu's Spirit Animals series. In this novel, humanity and technology have become thoroughly intertwined. Technology has expanded beyond what we thought possible — we see people and animals as codependent beings—but there are still humans who don't associate with technology. This creates a society of people who can be easily preyed upon by those who are technologically advanced and don't have to use their brains. They know way more about how the world works than anyone else, so they want to step out of their comfort zones and explore it for the first time.

A middle aged woman and an old man were walking in the woods when they heard a strange noise. When they stopped to investigate, they found a young girl under attack by a giant wolf with glowing green eyes. What they didn't know was that the creature was not like any wolf or bear that they had ever seen before. The wolf attacked them and ran away with the girl still in its grasp. The couple returned home only to find that their house had been destroyed by fire.

As the story goes, a new spirit animal is born when the stars align in a constellation that resembles a tree. When the baby spirit animal hatches, the leaves start to come into color and the trunk begins to split open. It's then that something inside it starts to change, becoming more powerful and more dangerous with each second. The young spirit animal is named Evertree because from its branches comes an eternal fountain of life - the sap. That's why living things can't get too close to it - for fear of being consumed by its sap or poisoned by this liquid fire.

In this audiobook, the narrator, Nicola Barber is a wonderful narrator who does an excellent job of conveying all of the different emotions, feelings and thoughts that Marie Lu's characters have. For fans of audiobooks and for those looking for a good summer read, I highly recommend this one!
