Something to Hide by Fleur McDonald, a book in the series known as 'The Case of the Disappearing Diamonds,' tells the story of a man who is trying to get his hands on a diamond stickpin. Detective Inspector John Rathbone has a case that seems simple at first glance: find out where the stickpin went. But when he discovers it's not where it should be and clues lead him to an elaborate scheme, everything he knew about diamond-selling was turned upside down.
Something to Hide was originally written in 2015, but somehow it has taken until 2018 for me to read it. It is without a doubt the most well-written book I have ever come across and one of the most thought-provoking. The book made me really question everything that I believed about life and myself and was incredibly difficult to put down.
Something to Hide, by Fleur McDonald, is a psychological thriller in which the protagonist becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth about her ex-husband and their son's life. The story is set in London, where the protagonist has been living and working as a journalist since her husband leaves her. She begins to search for clues in his office, hoping to find new evidence of where he went and what he did, but before she can find anything incriminating, she comes across an old file that contains incriminating evidence of a crime committed decades ago. The story explores themes of love and loss, and how personal trauma affects our actions later on in life.
'Fleur McDonald' narrates this thriller, and the narrator is excellent. I was drawn into the story right away and couldn't find a place to stop listening without finishing it. The ending is perfect and left me wanting more.
Fleur McDonald is a young woman who has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. The story follows Fleur as she takes on the role of caregiver for her father, who is living with the illness.
[Fleur McDonald] is my favorite narrator. I like how she has a lovely voice that's not too high or too low and her accent is perfect for the story. Her British accent fits the characters perfectly and gives them more of an edge than if it had been done in an American accent. She does an amazing job at portraying each character's personality and emotions which helps me connect with them much better.
