In the latest installment of the Rough Riders series, Lorelei James brings readers a story where love and duty collide. The story begins with Kane getting ready for his annual family reunion to hear retread news of his sister's death. Nevertheless, he has hopes that things are going to change for the better once this is said and done. Unfortunately, Kane is unable to shake off his feelings for Bridgette who was married in the last book in order to protect her from the bad guys looking for her. He always loved her but thought it was best that she not know about their past connection. Now he's faced with a tough decision: follow his family's wishes or risk everything because of what is best for one person?

"He was everything a woman could want." There are always certain things in life that women will never find themselves stating, because they know they don't exist. The most important thing that may be missing from any woman's life is a man like Kane. He is gentle, protective, and handsome as sin. And he also has a true heart of gold. He doesn't have to say anything for me to know he loves me with his whole self, which is why my favorite part of this story is the epilogue where he says all those words I had been waiting so long for him to say.

Raising Kane is the ninth book in the Rough Riders series. It is a m/m reverse harem story set in, you guessed it, 1874. The storyline revolves around Wild Kane, who has a reputation for being a ladies man and womanizer with no fear of any woman. He does not want to settle down until he meets Missy. My favorite part about this book was when the protagonist got involved in the detective game and had to figure out who was behind all of the murders that were happening around him.

Kane, a horse rancher, has a daughter and must leave his home to raise her. At first, he struggles to bring up the baby while also running his ranch. His daughter is less than receptive to the new baby that came with him and starts making demands on him. Kane takes everything in stride thinking all will be fine but when the newcomer, who's name is Mandy, starts getting more and more demanding he's forced to do something. He decides it would be best if she went back home so she can spend time with her family before she gets too old for them. Kane does not want to send her away because he loves her as he had nothing else in his life until now but knows he can't keep her here forever.

Kane and Jake are trying to raise enough money to pay off the debt they owe their parents but it's not going well. When a friend from high school comes into town with a huge inheritance, Kane is skeptical. But when he meets Tessa for the first time, his entire life changes in an instant. This book is full of twists and turns that I wasn't expecting at all and I think it's one of Lorelei James' best books!
