Carly Phillips has become one of my favorite authors. When I read her latest book, Just One Chance, I was not disappointed. I enjoyed the story line as well as the characters. When I found out that Mackenzie Cartwright was the narrator of this audiobook, it just added to the delight of reading this book.

Just One Chance is the third in Carly Phillips' 'Just One Night' series. A burned out alpha who lost his family and career, interrupts a one night stand of a girl with no direction, who has to take over his life. As he pulls her from Los Angeles back to the small town where he grew up and still owns property, she fights him on every move. Trusting is not something that comes easy for either of them, but they find themselves stuck in a web that neither of them can break free from without trust.

Just One Chance is a romantic novel about the journey to find happiness. Rich, Grey, and young socialite Mackenzie falls in love with Connor but knows she should break it off before he hurts her. It's not until she realizes that Connor is being blackmailed that she can't help but give him one chance instead of maintaining the status quo.

Just One Chance is a short, but packed read. The story features a heroine named Kate who has been in and out of the foster care system for most of her life. She is walking on the street one night when she is attacked. That same night, she receives an unusual phone call from someone claiming to be her real father with one chance to get back her mom and sister before it's too late. The story proceeds as if this is happening to Kate for the first time, even though everything you learn about her fills in the gaps that happened earlier in the book.
