Is Paris Burning? Free Audiobook Download by Dominique Lapierre,Larry Collins
In a new book, Lapierre and Collins explore one of the most dramatic episodes in the history of Paris--the last days of Napoleon Bonaparte's rule.
Chapter 1 is a detailed account of the night and in the morning of November 10, 1918 when German soldiers, unwittingly shielded behind a white flag captured Paris and nearly took Europe. The second half of the book is more about how France was rebuilt in an astonishingly short period of time.
Is Paris Burning? tells the story of the Gestapo's storming of the Gare Montparnasse on November 24, 1940. They are looking for resistance fighters and have a list of names that they know are there. The book is based on Larry Collins's original interviews with survivors who were there when it happened. The book was made into a film in 1972 by David Lean, but this is the audiobook version.
Paris, France has been the world's most important city since the days of antiquity. It started as a legendary place of light and beauty, then became rich and powerful, then declined and fell prey to the barbarians who later ruled it for centuries. But by the beginning of our new century, Paris was once again great. Now she's being threatened from within by violent elements which are exploiting her vulnerability:
The reader follows the lead of the elusive American journalist, Frederick Davidson, as he unravels the mystery in France and all over Europe. The story begins with an attack on a Jewish school but quickly escalates to all-out war. Carefully timed events are played out to keep readers clueless about what is really going on. However, clues are revealed in every chapter, keeping them guessing throughout.
In 1958, Charles de Gaulle, the country's first and only president, gave a famous speech about France. He said "...France cannot be saved militarily." Fifty years later in 2008, his words have been proven true. In the year of its centennial (2011) France was still going strong. Paris had the Eiffel Tower, le Louvre and Disneyland. But when Charlie Hebdo was attacked on consecutive days in January of 2015 that all changed. Paris has since become a war zone with its citizens being bombarded by terror attacks of all kinds.
