Bronwyn Scott's debut novel, How to Disgrace a Lady, is the tale of one pregnant woman's journey from her late twenties to her early forties as she tries to find herself.

This novel is about a woman in contemporary England who has ambitions for the life she wants. She is married to a good man, with children and friends and family, but also has a secret. She feels as though she has to be perfect in every way, especially when it comes to her cooking. When she tries to cook delicious meals for her husband, he either doesn't eat it or compliments her on it instead of eating it himself. This causes the woman to take drastic steps to make sure that no one will ever guess what she is doing

Penelope Rawlins is an American with a British accent who has learned to overcome the shame that many women endure. She lives in England, but travels at least once a month to assist English women in understanding their bodies and how they can reduce sexual shame and enhance their sex lives.

Lady Melbury has a problem: she's recently discovered the truth about her husband, and the scandal that's sure to ensue. She needs a way to get out of town in time, so she turns to a friend for help. Will the plan backfire? What will happen when people find out what happened and her secret is revealed?

Everyone seems to have a standard for what they consider an acceptable way to behave around ladies. I, of course, am no exception. Anything more than a few words is usually too much for me to handle, and when I'm forced into conversations with those people who are just not cut out for society, it's nice in contrast to the usual run-of-the-mill pleasantries. My problem is that I find myself in these conversations more often lately. Definitely not a bad thing--it means I've been doing well--but it has made me realize that these expectations can be as damaging as they're helpful if we don't know how to make them work for us.
