Heart of a Samurai Free Audiobook Download by Margi Preus

The protagonist, Shimizu Hiromi, is a samurai who has been banished from his clan. He leaves Japan to live freely in America before being approached by the Japanese government to help end the civil war that is brewing. The samurai uses his sword fighting skills to help secure a truce but as he leaves the country, he hears talk of a smallpox outbreak and rushes back to help save his family and nation. This book is one of my favorite YA books because it's action-packed and fast-paced. It also speaks about important topics such as identity and discrimination. If you enjoy historical fiction, this book will be perfect for you!

The Heart of a Samurai, by Margi Preus, is an historical fiction novel. It was published in 2016 and tells the story of a young man who is taken from his native Japan to Hawaii to be trained in the ways of a samurai. Readers will be able to empathize with this protagonist as they learn more about samurai culture and history through the book.

Heart of a Samurai is the first book in Margi Preus's heart series, and has been adapted into an audiobook. The protagonist, Tora, is a masterless samurai and a spiritual seeker who has been living in exile since his father commanded him to leave Japan after their village was destroyed in a battle with the rival clan. When he's accused of murder-a charge he doesn't believe himself capable of committing-Tora finds himself on trial for his life in the court of Lord Tokugawa Ietsuna, the clan leader who ordered Tora's exile.

A gripping novel in the modern world of martial arts, following a young man's journey to fill his role as a samurai. His father is an expert swordsman but doesn't have time for him and his mom has died. Will he make the right decisions in this changing society?

"Haru has decided to spend the summer in a small mountain town with his cousin. The place looks like it would have been just the kind of peaceful place he needs to escape from the grief and anger that dogged him every day at home..."

Heart of a Samurai is written by Margi Preus and narrated by James Yaegashi. It is told in the form of a memoir that takes place during World War II. There are many examples in the book that show how and why people choose to act as they do, or feel they must act as they do, in certain situations.
