Greenglass House Free Audiobook Download by Kate Milford
The Greenglass House, built in 1923, has been abandoned for decades. But thirteen-year-old Jim is the new kid in town, and the old house with its boarded up windows and crumbling roof is way more interesting than his own boring life. Soon he's spending every day exploring the place, reading old newspaper clippings and getting to know Sadie who lives next door. It seems too good to be true when they discover hidden rooms inside the house-rooms that seem to have not just one but two sets of hinges on their doors. At first they think it's all part of an elaborate prank. But then they find a dusty card, half ripped in two and hidden beneath a floorboard: "The American Museum of Magic." This is a mystery that goes back generations--and has just brought them dangerously closer to figuring out what happened to their family's past.
Chris Henry Coffey narrates this spellbinding tale of a house where the floors are littered with beautiful patterns of green glass. From the lush verdant forest, to the icy cold winters, this audiobook will pull you in and leave you longing for more.
Chris Henry Coffey does an excellent job at bringing the story of Greenglass house to life. He is also a skilled narrator and does not sound monotonous or boring. The narration is well paced and his voice is pleasant to listen to.
Greenglass House is a novel set in the same world as The Bronze Key, though it follows another set of characters. It follows the story of two siblings who are trying to find their lost father, who disappeared after his brief stint as the town's blacksmith. The kids come across an abandoned mansion on the outskirts of town and soon learn that the house has a dreadful legend attached to it - anyone who enters will never want to leave.
When Miranda and her family move into the deserted old house, they find a scrap of paper in the fireplace with the words "Greenglass House" scribbled on it. No one can figure out what this means or why they found it. When Miranda tries to figure out who she is and where she's from, she has visions of a mysterious girl named Emily. The mystery deepens when the girl falls off a cliff in one of Miranda's visions. As more clues about Emily come to light, we realize that Miranda is not just looking for herself but for someone who has been lost for decades.'
This is the first book in a very good "urban fantasy" series that takes place in Milford, CT. Narrator Chris Henry Coffey does a great job with voices and accents. It's really easy to keep track of all the different characters he's portraying throughout the audiobook. The story has a very whimsical feel to it which I think is appropriate for this type of genre.
