This Middle School story follows the lead character, Jake, as he goes through a new school. Jake is an outcast and his day starts out with him being bullied and called a geek. He's nerdy, but still finds himself to be brave when he's defending the unpopular kids on the bus from the bully of the bus driver. His friends are there for him at this point, but they have their own problems insecurities they deal with on their own time outside of school. As soon as he gets home every day he takes care of his dog to make up for what happened during school which is where all the good lessons come in.

A middle school student, his dog and his notebook make for an interesting story. The protagonist learns about a bully named Eric who challenges him every day. He eventually unleashes his middle school rage on Eric and beats the crap out of him. This novel is a must-listen for animal lovers.
