It was a deceptively quick read. But it had a lot of time to be painful and I found myself on the verge of tears more than once. This book is written from the perspective of a protagonist who has led a fairly charmed life, even while others around her have experienced unimaginable loss and pain. The author is able to capture these moments incredibly well in the prose, but also through the characters' dialogue and how they interact with one another. It was really quite surprising how much I enjoyed this book after all of my warnings.
