Country Proud Free Audiobook Download by Linda Lael Miller

Country Proud by Linda Lael Miller is the first book in a series of six western historical romance novels. The narrator Jack Garrett is a character that creates an intimate connection between the reader and the story. The novel takes place in Indian Territory, and has all the trappings of a good western romance with one exception. This book is narrated from the perspective of Native Americans who, in their culture, are often referred to as redskins or Indians.

The author of the Country Proud novel series, Linda Lael Miller, is one of my very favorite authors. I love hearing her books read by Jack Garrett because the voice he uses is like no other. His country accent and his ability to infuse heartfelt emotion into every word make him an ideal narrator for all of Miller's work.

Most of Linda Lael Miller's books are set in the Oklahoma Territory, and this is no exception. This book tells the story of a young woman who joins her father on a cattle drive to Montana, where they settle down and make their ranch into one of the great herds. There is romance, adventure, humor and love that keeps you reading until you can't put it down.

Country Proud is a story about two brothers, but it reads as a coming-of-age tale. The first brother, John Garrett, was raised to live in the city and feel regretful whenever he visited the old homestead where he and his family lived. Now that he is an adult and living in the country, he has learned to appreciate the land and all it has to offer him. His older brother, Jessie Garrett, had been raised by their grandparents on the farm because their father died while they were still young. This story follows both brothers as they learn what it really means to be a country boy.

The title of the audiobook, Country Proud, is a call to arms for readers to claim their roots. Notably, this book's narrator is Jack Garrett, who is transplanted from New York City to the Deep South. As he recounts his life and loves in this story, it becomes evident that there are many different ways to be country. This can happen by being born in the south or by simply falling in love with it. In addition to its message about reclaiming one's identity, the book tells a compelling story about family that spans generations.

Country Proud is the tenth installment in Lael Miller's series of mystery novels set in the Smoky Mountains, featuring Jack Garrett and his womanizing deputy Smokey.
