The story begins with a gossip columnist and society reporter coming into an inheritance of money and a family estate that she never wanted, but now has to care for. The main character, Georgie, wants nothing to do with it and just wants to live her life in London. She falls in love with Jeremy, who lives with his parents in the newly renovated mansion next door. Georgie has decidedly not grandiose thoughts about the estate, as she just wants to put it into some sort of trust for someone else to take over.

Cold-Hearted Rake is a dramatic and captivating story of three friends in the 18th century, with a fairytale ending. A beautiful young woman, Selena, arrives in England from Spain and finds herself interested in something other than the men who surround her. It would seem to be a simple proposition: find one man who would make her happy and marry him. In her journey, she meets three different men who each have their own particular charms and quirks that make them very desirable to Selena. However, the course of true love never does run smooth for the heroine and she soon realizes that finding happiness comes more often than not with sorrowful consequences.

This audiobook is well worth buying to listen to as it has been narrated by Mary Jane Wells who does an excellent job of including all the accents from people from all across Europe.
