In the late 1800's, Jack Garrett looks like a dangerous outlaw. However, he is as gentle and kind as he looks rough. He rescues a beautiful woman from being a mail order bride and she helps him clean up his act. He finds peace with his family and others after getting married to her on Christmas Day in the small town of Valentine.
"An Outlaw's Christmas" is a contemporary romance by Linda Lael Miller. It tells the story of Heather Larkin and Jack Garrett, an outlaw with a heart of gold and a deep dark secret. This beautifully-written historical romance is set in 1892, when many married women were becoming homemakers to help their husbands with ranching or farming. Romance, this book has it all! Surprise twists, suspense, humor and some bittersweet moments will keep you glued to your seat until the very end.
In this audiobook, a young girl named Jordie is kidnapped from her home in the middle of the night and taken to an outlaw's hideout. The outlaw breaks his promise to deliver her to his band of robbers, but she manages to escape, only to run into another outlaw who saves her. Jack Garrett (of Jack Garrett), who has been listening to Jordie's story, goes on a quest for revenge against the outlaws and finds himself helping Jordie find her way home.
The characters of this audiobook bring the story to life, especially with their different accents. Some of the slang and phrases used in this book were a little confusing; sometimes I had to rewind to figure out what was being said. The story itself was interesting, but it also felt as if something was missing from the plot.
Jack Garrett narrated the audiobook for this novel and I was pleasantly surprised by how he captured the voice of an outlaw. Usually, when I listen to books read by someone other than the author, it takes me a few chapters to get used to their voice. With this book (and I'm sure similar novels), however, his voice is perfect from start to finish.
The year was 1881, and Sonny Corleone was now a fugitive from justice. The law had long ago given up the search for him, but to the outlaws he was still wanted. They knew he wouldn't come back to town or give up his outlaw ways. The problem for them was that Sonny was getting old and his skills were diminishing.
