"A Treacherous Tide" is a story of adventure, peril, and survival. The novel starts with a shipwreck in the Gulf of Mexico of all places. There are several different stories that intertwine with one another at different points throughout the book. I liked how each character had their own story to tell and how they all related to one another. The protagonist of this book is Tim Gregory who is just a normal teenager trying to find his way in the world.

The Missionary River is also called The Treacherous Tide because it's very treacherous at times, with twisting currents and falling over waterfalls. Franklin W. Dixon's books about this river were published in the 1960s and have been read by schoolchildren for years.
