A Fire Upon the Deep is an incredible science-fiction novel about a future Earth. The protagonist is 'Zakalwe,' who works on a spaceship called the 'Vernor Vinge.' The ship is on the mission to find mankind in space and bring them back to Earth. However, they soon discover that their technology has decayed and they need to find a way around it. Zakalwe and his team jump up to find a way down from their mission, but when they jump, they find out that the universe isn't as empty as they had always thought.
The novel is a science fiction classic set in two different universes. The first takes place in the universe of Earth and focuses on the inhabitants of a single starship, the generation ship Behemoth. The second takes place in a parallel universe and follows three space explorers who land upon an unknown planet.
