In the early 1800s, and in a competition of two traders, Edo was chosen as the capital of Japan and become known as the 'Paris of the East'. The first railway was built in 1872 to connect Edo with Kyoto. In 1881, Tokyo was designated as the future capital instead. In 1895, Emperor Meiji moved his court to Tokyo, resulting in over 10 000 Japanese citizens moving to America that same year because they found it difficult living in a society where foreigners were not allowed.
When I first started with the audiobook download, I was not expecting to enjoy it. I thought it was going to be a bunch of boring history that would put me to sleep. It turned out that this is one of the best audiobooks ever recorded and I couldn't stop listening.
