This is the story of two women; one dying, the other grief-stricken, and the young daughter they leave behind. The novel explores themes of death, motherhood, love, forgiveness and spirituality.
You, a college professor and mother of twins, are at the beach, when you look up and find yourself face to face with your own twin. Is this one of those cosmic bad dreams that looks like reality but isn't?
Even though the story takes place in the 1960's, it revolves around contemporary topics. The story is about a family of five and their involvement in a custody battle over their autistic son. It is written from the perspective of both the father and mother involved in the case so readers get to see both sides of the matter with very different perspectives.
Wish You Were Here is a novel about a woman who has everything... except for one thing: her family. After being diagnosed with cancer, she flees to Florida in order to escape them and live out the last days of her life as she chooses. The book follows four different characters-Lily, Kate, Marabelle, and Anthony-who are all struggling with their own issues. From relationships to family problems to mental health and addiction, Wish You Were Here explores many different topics that won't soon be forgotten.
Marin Ireland [is] excellent as the narrator of Wish You Were Here: A Novel. As in some of her other novels, Picoult is adept at creating multi-dimensional characters and in this particular story, Ireland's performance is again noteworthy.
Wish You Were Here is about a family whose life changes in an instant when their daughter becomes the first person to contract and die from SSSS. This is the story of how they cope with her death and come together as a family.
