The Good, the Bad, and the Undead Free Audiobook Download by Kim Harrison
The Good: Kim Harrison. A woman with a knack for writing witty and entertaining characters that are part-way between paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and mystery. Though her books can get pretty graphic at times, they're still light reading and fun to listen to. The Bad: The pacing of the story is too fast for the listeners' eyes. Most of the action takes place in the first few hours which leaves the listener running behind throughout the whole book or getting bored with how fast he/she has to read. There's just not enough time for each character to develop or grow which makes them seem one dimensional as opposed to three dimensional like most other books in this genre The Undead: There are zombies all around you!
Kim Harrison's latest novel in her Hollows series is an exciting, thrilling read. The Good, the Bad, and the Undead focuses on our main protagonist Rachel Morgan who has decided to return to the place she used to call home - Cincinnati. But when she wakes up from a coma that morning with a new set of abilities and memories, it becomes obvious that something has changed while she was away.
The Good, the Bad, and the Undead is a new addition to the Hollows series. The plot is not a complete departure, but it has been dragged out in this novel to give more background of the main character Rachel Morgan. This novel can be read as a stand alone novel, but it really doesn't make sense without reading the previous six novels in order.
Kim Harrison has written a vampire book that has been called one of the best in the series. The audiobook is narrated by Marguerite Gavin, who is well-known for her role as Jane Eyre on the radio adaptation of this novel. This allows listeners to hear the story in their head while they listen to it on their headphones or computer speakers.
If you're looking for something to listen to during your hot summer day, Kim Harrison's The Good, the Bad, and the Undead is perfect. With a cast of characters with supernatural powers who deal with the undead, this novel offers everything an action-packed, summer read.
The Good: The audiobook is quite long and there are a lot of things that happen. The character development is pretty decent, and it's told from the point of view of three different main characters which keeps the story interesting. The Bad: It's really not much of a "bad" part, but I would've liked to see more background on the characters.
