Drew Daywalt was a happy and normal boy who loved playing with his favorite toys, the green crayons he had just received for his birthday. That's until one fateful day, when the crayons refused to cooperate with him anymore. The crayons are tired of being used by Drew, so they quit painting and writing for their young owner in order to teach him a lesson.

The Day the Crayons Quit is a children's picture book written by Drew Daywalt, and was first published on November 8th, 2013. The book starts off with a boy (later revealed to be the author) coming back from a long day at school and finding crayons scattered around the house. When he calls for his parents, they don't answer. He goes into his room only to find that all of his crayons have turned into pencils and paper cups. The Day the Crayons Quit is a Caldecott Honor book about one day when all the crayons in the world suddenly quit working. The author of this book, Drew Daywalt, does a great job at describing what each crayon is used for and how they react to this unusual situation. He also tries to be as creative as possible with his story concept so that the reader can feel like they are part of the adventure with him. I would highly recommend this book to any child or adult that wants to have a fun time listening to an entertaining read.

The main character, Duncan, has a day where he doesn't like anything in his life. It all started when he found his favorite crayon was missing. As the day continues to go on and nothing seems right, a rainbow falls from the sky and everything starts to make sense.

Drew Daywalt, the former vice president of marketing for Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media, created a book about the day his crayons quit. Drew takes us through his dad turning this into a family event with all of the crayons in their box as well as his mom taking on the task of re-crayoning all of them. After a couple hours of doing that, Drew's mom finally has to give it up and order new crayons; but not before letting everyone try them out.
