Alice Coldbreath is an orphan with a grim outlook on life. She has no family and knows that her only hope is to be adopted. When Alice learns that she's been adopted, she's thrilled until she realizes there were some conditions attached to the adoption. It turns out her adoptive parents want her to continue living as they see fit or they'll take her back - permanently. The story takes place in a depressing world where children are encouraged to be obedient and prosocial by their parents in order to secure their future. It centers around Alice who is one of those rebellious kids and must decide whether or not it's worth it

It wasn't until her sister, Isabelle, gave her the audio-book of The Consolation Prize that Alice finally felt complete again. If you're looking for a read that has both light and uplifting moments then this one is for you!
The Consolation Prize, by Alice Coldbreath is a gripping and suspenseful thriller. This audiobook is narrated by [Anne Flosnik]. I like how the narrator's voice switches between male and female to give each character a distinct identity. The story is told in alternating chapters that switch between the first person narrative of Jayde and Christopher. I thoroughly enjoyed this read, as it kept me guessing who was telling the truth and what was really going on until the very end.
Alice Coldbreath is a typical teenager. She's a bit overweight and feels like she's never good enough. Then one day, Alice overhears an argument between her parents about the pros of losing weight. After that, Alice decides to embark on a diet that helps her lose weight and regain some self-worth in the process.
She has no idea what to say. It's a Wednesday evening, and Alice Coldbreath is trying to get out of the house before her mother returns from work. But she can't stop thinking about her last conversation with her dad. She remembers he was laughing then, enjoying a rare moment of peace with her and his grandchildren in his favorite rocking chair. He'd been so happy that day -- at least until he mentioned "the consolation prize."
