Sitting Pretty: The View from My Ordinary, Resilient, Disabled Body Free Audiobook Download by Rebekah Taussig

The audiobook tells the tale of Rebekah Taussig, a young woman with cerebral palsy. She is currently a theater student at NYU, has attended many schools and written for publications including Liminal Quarterly. What comes as a surprise is that Rebekah is also an avid reader and aspiring writer of children's books.

[Rebekah Taussig] is a disabled body, not a broken one. Whether it's a social media check-in or people who are uninformed and making assumptions, she speaks to us about doing better in our own skin. In her book, she talks to readers about what it means to write without words--doing the work of building the self through the act of writing

This book is about the author's fight to reclaim her body and mind from a lifetime of illness and oppression. The author had multiple failed surgeries as a child, but then she was told she would never be able to be pregnant or have children. She went on to discover that this was due to her body not accepting that her organs could work together. As an adult, Rebekah Taussig wrote this memoir in hopes that other people who may feel different because of their disabilities will know they are still normal in their own way.

After a year of physical therapy to help me get my body back, I felt like sitting down and documenting this struggle would bring me some peace. As someone who has been trying to find her place in the world, I wanted to show that being disabled can be beautiful and can even add depth to your life.

When Rebekah Taussig was a teenager, she was diagnosed with scoliosis and fibromyalgia. In her book, Sitting Pretty: The View from My Ordinary, Resilient, Disabled Body she shares her struggles with these diagnoses as well as how they have changed the way she sees life. This looks back on Taussig's experiences of being a teen in Pittsburgh when her disability wasn't yet there and the way that things have changed since then.

Sitting Pretty: The View from My Ordinary, Resilient, Disabled Body was a difficult book to read. It is a memoir from the perspective of Rebekah Taussig, who is a disabled individual that's very aware of how different her life is than those around her in society. In addition to discussing the many differences she has had and that are still present, the book talks about coming out as disabled and what it means for her.
