The story begins in a small town overrun with monsters. The people are called 'Copples' after the large colorful leaves that grow from the trees and have long been used as a symbol of fertility. The protagonist, Kameron, doesn't believe in myths or legends; however, she finds herself being chased by a ginormous beast one day while running to school. When she screams for help, Jayden saves her life as he is able to take away her voice. She can no longer speak and has to keep him close at all times to survive in this strange world filled with magical creatures and mythical lore.

Shadows are the most important part of a person's life. They show them who they are and what they can do. A person's shadows speak to them, telling them their stories in a beautiful way. There is also a shadowed steel that speaks of strength and protection. This book is an action packed romance novel that takes place in the year 2026 and revolves around two characters, one male and one female with different backgrounds and lifestyles. This book explores the idea of love between these two people while showing us how there is an ever-changing world that forces people to live in hiding or else be killed because of their race or religion.

The Steel Angel series is paranormal romance with a female-focused lead. There are four books in the series, each focusing on different characters and a different paranormal being. The title of the first book, "Shadowed Steel," gave me great expectations as I read it. I felt like that was going to be the main focus of the plot and I thought it would be unique from other similar stories. With that said, I didn't quite feel like this story was strong enough to keep me interested for the long run.

The Daughters of St. Croix, a series by Chloe Neill, is an urban fantasy and paranormal romance that follows the life of three sisters in Atlanta. The story revolves around the three sisters who have different talents and abilities as well as their relationships with each other. The audiobook, narrated by Suzanne Elise Freeman, has an immersive feel to it with her soft voice making you feel like you are actually sitting on the front porch with the sisters.

I was lucky enough to be able to listen to this book as part of my job and I'm so glad that I did. The audiobook was fantastic, the narrator did an amazing job with the voices and really brought the story to life! If you're looking for a new YA steampunk book, this is a must read!
